Sadly I am wary of replying to the politics of welfare reform because it angers me so much and my objectivity is very lacking.
Realistically though I have no idea where to start and when I do, I never feel I have the words to accurately put across my objections into words however I have found some people who have. Check this link http://www.mind.org.uk/assets/0001/6406/2012-03-01_Responsible_Reform_-_Sue_Marsh_Report.pdf
There is so much of worth here that I feel it is a must read
As for my own views
Though I agree there needs to be some reform the governments’ planned implementation sucks and in my opinion does not do any of the things that the reform was supposed to.
There are some signs that they have taken some time to think about it however there are many more that suggest that they haven’t. I am left feeling that far too many people will be trapped in poverty and would be generally be less likely to get back into work as a result of these proposals.
It seems to me obvious that welfare reform should take years with many more consultations to achieve the results that the government wants to achieve and that their pushing it through will only result in a job very poorly done that doesn't help man nor beast and certainly doesn't save on spending.
And just like ESA hasn’t saved the country money, neither will these proposals and neither will they have the desired effect of encouraging people back into work.
Sadly I feel they will do the opposite and leave people worse off finically and in poorer health too. I feel that they started need to accept that more people than they would like will not be able to work, that a great number will have greater costs to living and working than their healthy compatriots and start addressing the problems associated with people being unwell or incapacitated for long periods of time, like poverty and social isolation both of which have knock on effects to people getting back to work and coping with it once they have achieved it.
